Wigan Athletic are expecting more than double
their EFL League One average attendance next Monday when Premier League leaders Manchester City visit for their FA Cup fifth round tie.
The 2013 FA Cup winners average 8,991 fans per game this season, but in an official club announcement have revealed that over 17,000 tickets have already been sold for the 25,000 seat DW Stadium.
The club stated on their official website:
“Ticket sales passed the 17,000 mark on Tuesday night for Latics’ Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round clash with Manchester City on Monday 19 February (kick-off 7:55pm).
One of the DW’s biggest crowds in recent years is expected for the clash with Pep Guardiola’s side, with Latics looking to repeat their successes of 2013 and 2014 against City.”
Wigan fans will be hoping to see their players repeat the 2013 FA Cup final win over City, which they followed up the next season when Blues hero Uwe Rösler was in charge by stunning Manuel Pellegrini’s City side at the Etihad in the FA Cup sixth round.
For City, a win over Wigan would continue a quadruple hunt that becomes slightly less of a fantasy with each passing week.
