The almost constant links between Manchester United and Antoine Griezmann were not unfounded according to recent reports – but it seems the transfer is now a non starter.
That’s according to Don Balon, who report that the player had in fact decided to finally move to Manchester United this coming summer, but saw their move for Alexis Sanchez ruin that, with the Frenchman well aware the two players would struggle in the same side managed by Jose Mourinho.
It left Griezmann unhappy and now worried over his own future, with the links between Barcelona and himself already causing trouble, with Atleti taking a hard line on any sort of approach and threats of reporting and possibly trying to get a transfer ban being thrown around before a hasty denial from Barcelona.
There are of course other options for Griezmann that do not include Manchester United, with Real Madrid a remote possibility due to their rivalry with Atleti, but PSG are still fans of the player and will look to spend big again in the summer if they do crash out of the Champions League to Real Madrid – though quite where he would fit in remains to be seen.
The most likely option is the Camp Nou, with Barca still looking to replace Neymar.
The player will now look to make the move to Barcelona come the summer, and it seems that United have also put a thorn in the side of Atleti’s plans, with the La Liga club initially looking at signing Alexis Sanchez on a free in the summer.
Clearly, that will no longer be an option, and they too will now have to look elsewhere when it comes to replacing Griezmann after being tied down last summer due to their transfer ban. They’ve already now added Diego Costa to their ranks, and the side have improved – as has Griezmann personally, after a very tough start to the season for the player.
