The ‘Israeli Leo Messi’ – Gai Assulin
Israeli midfielder Gai Assulin has completed a move to Kazakhstan on Tuesday to team up with former Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin at FC Kairat.
Now 26-years-old, Assulin was brought up in the Barcelona youth team.
In his early years he fell into the trap of being one of the potential ‘new Leo Messis’, however the Israeli never lived up to that billing.
Assulin never made an appearance for Barcelona, which lead him to switch to Man City back in 2010. But Assulin again failed to impress in the Premier League, and after registering no appearances for the Man City first team in two seasons he was off again.
Assulin went from being a ‘next Messi’ to being a full-time nomad.
He’s since turned up at Brighton, Racing Santander, Granada, Hercules, Mallorca, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Sabadell. But he’s never managed to settle in any of those clubs for long.
Assulin joins Arshavin’s FC Kairat
On Tuesday, local Kazakhstani powerhouse FC Kairat announced they’ve signed Gai Assulin.
Kairat have handed the creative midfielder a two year contract.
It’s currently the off-season in Kazakhstan before the 2018 campaign begins.
Last season Kairat finished second, gaining them entry into the Europa League qualifiers.
